On the Road a week at a glance 5/2 through 5/9

As I cross the highways and biways of this once great nation spreading my loving message of yoga, existentialism and dick jokes, I'm indeed blessed with the trappings that are AMERICA.

This picture was taken in Tennessee the day after Bin Laden was shot and I havent seen this many people excited about the death of an international terrorist since Ronald Reagan died and furthermore Id like to think once the news came down this guy took his truck down to Kinkos and had them make this but sadly enough, the dude rolls like this 24/7/365.

In huge gold letters across the tailgate IN GOD WE TRUST...in stickers across the window Thank God for America and Freedom.

I did my best to get a better photo of it but its like sasquatch, you just gotta be happy with what you get and YES the front wheel well and hood was blue with stars on it.  I imagine if they buried Evil Knievel in a truck it wouldve looked like this.

I guess what I'd like to point out is that ultimately the ideas we attach ourselves to be it religion or patriotism are probably best left to our quiet actions and not as rolling billboards.

The window sticker "Thank God for America and Freedom" is what I pondered as I followed this guy for 25 miles.  Yes we should thank God for America and Freedom, but ultimately we are thanking God for FREE WILL.  The free will that gave the ability for our forefathers to come here and kill the natives and use slave labor to build our economy and railroads and our ability to choose to forgive the actions of the past both of ourselves and others and the freedom for me to forgive this guy after he cut me off and caused me to pee on my leg as I missed the gallon jug I had been using all morning.

But that is America, constantly one upping your neighbor, you live in America, thats pretty good, youre a white guy in Tennessee ok two more bonus points, you have an American Truck, fuck yea you do and NOW ITS A GIANT AMERICAN FLAG.  Solid move Cooter but your after market rims were made in Korea and bought at Walmart.

From Ohio to Connecticut

Wednesday nights show was far better than Tuesday nights open Mic at the Scarlet and Grey Cafe on the OSU Campus in Columbus.  I have no idea why college kids are so politically correct..its tuesday, theyre drinking, theyre in FUCKING COLLEGE, cmon whats some off politically incorrect offensive dick jokes to pepper your life with.  The comics liked it, the crowd was less than enthused and when I said that I wanted to follow Hitler on twitter it made an "overtly jewish"(my buddies words not mine) woman leave.

But anyways, wednesday night was at Bernies on High St and the turn out was what I expected, mostly friends and a few new friends and some strangers all who enjoyed themselves in a dive bar, it was great to catch up and lay the plans for my return to Columbus in August for the Pitboss 2000 reunion which will be retarded.  I felt out of place, I was the only guy without tattoos on my face...  give it time.

Columbus to Hartford was 11 hours and I gave myself enough time to drive to Bethel CT which was where my family moved from when my dad got transferred to California in 1977.  My brother was like a half month old and I think spent a week here but I spent 1975 through 1977 looking out the window on the left.  The house was pretty run down now and didnt really have the same glory as I remember it, I do remember having KISS posters and playing War with the neighbors across the street behind huge boulders which were still there.  The neighborhood hadnt changed a bit in the 34 years since I had been there, the only thing for sure that changed was that Danbury had taken a turn for the worse and there is no way in hell my mother would live that close to "them".

That night in Hartford, Shuli and I rocked The BrewHAHA cafe at City Steam and then drove all the way back to Flushing because we had radio at 5am.

Jay Thomas Show

Picture
As a Howard Stern Superfan just being up at SiriusXM is a thrill.  Ive been up there 8 times now and everytime is a thrill.  Shuli and Jay Thomas were awesome enough to let me sit in and contribute for the Friday Morning Show where Jay kept referring to me as John Tole the guy who found Jesus.  I love this show, its really quick paced, Garret and Al were cool as hell but of course my man here to the left Ira The Weatherman is the star of the Show.

Thats Ira nodding off like a heroin junkie during a break, I have no idea how hes falling asleep he had finished that large coffee just minutes before.

Anyways Tune into Jays Show, its awesome.

St Pats Noon Mass

Picture
After radio I went over to St. Patricks Cathedral which is the be all end all Catholic destination in New York.  When Im on the road and I cant get to mass on Sundays, The Catholic Channel on Sirius plays Sunday Mass from St. Pats and I was fortunate enough to take in the Noon Mass.  The priest made a couple jokes about allergy season and then made a great point about being in The House of the Lord and how we had recently seen in the Royal Wedding that the bride had joined the House of Windsor, the house referring to Family and that the House of the Lord was actually dwelling in  Gods Family.  Pretty awesome and I was stoked I got to check out all the Shrines with of course St. Jude being my personal go to guy.

NYC

This was my view after Mass when I called into Health Wealth and Happiness Radio on 1190.  The best damn happiest show ever!!  Im not really sure what buildings these are but the bald guy in the bottom center wasnt happy I had my phone out.

Check us out weekdays on www.rationalradio.com or on the I Heart Radio Ap for Smart Phones on 1190 CNN in Dallas.

The Show is 11am to Noon Mon-Fri with Kurt Johnsen, Rich Hancock, myself, Sage, Jill Lane and a host of other fine contributors and sponsors.

Boston

I drove up Sunday the 8th to spend the week in Massachusetts and hit up some open mics, showcases, network, sight see, eat sea food, drink iced coffee from Dunkin Donuts.

I was fortunate enough to hit up the open mics at The Rosebud, Sally O'Briens and The Green Dragon which was awesome considering very few people here know me but everyone here in this scene has been cool as fuck.

I spend my days reading, writing, meditating, doing yoga and trying to be healthy with my last remaining vice being a tie between Iced Coffee and Internet porn, both when left unchecked will leave an odd moisture ring on the desk...

Tonight driving home after two open mics, a Celtics OT Loss and a Red Sox Extra Inning Walk off win, I decided to stop into a Dunkin Donuts on Route 1 in Saugus MA and encountered a Die Hard. How can you hate?  This woman loves Iced Coffee and Muffins.

How do I know what she ordered, because I asked.  The guy at the drive through says she comes all the time and just goes through the drive through, mind you, this dunkin donuts is on a highway with no streets leading to it so that means she has to wheel it down the highway to her offramp to return to her house with her goodies.

Whats the Lesson here?????????????????????????????????????????
